Two-day workshop for regional-level social activists begins

District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa is seen watering a sapling to mark the inauguration of a workshop on ‘Ambedkar Jnana Darshana Abhiyana’at Rani Bahadur Auditorium in Manasagangothri in city this morning.

A two-day workshop on ‘Ambedkar Jnana Darshana Abhiyana’ for regional-level social activists from Kodagu, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts, organised jointly by Department of Social Welfare and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and  Extension Centre of Mysore University as part of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, commenced this morning at Rani Bahadur Auditorium in Manasagangothri here.

About 300 social activists are participating in the workshop.

Inaugurating the programme by watering a sapling, District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa said that the State Government would observe the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar on a global scale in May. He opined that Ambedkar was a multi-faceted personality having touched on every subject. He added that the thoughts and ideals of Dr. Ambedkar should be made to reach everyone.

Mysore University Vice-Chancellor (in-Charge) Prof. Yashavanth  Dongre presided. Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna, Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. J. Somashekar, Joint Director of Department of Social Welfare D.S. Prabha, Conference Convenor R. Siddaraju, Dr. Ambedkar Centre Co-ordinator Dr. S. Narendrakumar and others were present on the occasion.

A delegation, led by State Backward Classes Welfare Forum President K. Shivaram, presented a memorandum to the Minister seeking better facilities for the backward classes.
