Two electrocuted while replacing electric pole

Srirangapatna: Two persons were electrocuted while replacing an electric pole that supplies power to a stone crusher unit at Bastipura village on Yelwal-KRS Road on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Umesh Kumar (35), son of Govinda and Shankarachari (55), both from Yelwal village.

Yesterday afternoon, Umesh and Shankarachari, both employees of different stone crusher units, along with four others, were involved in replacing the electric pole carrying 11 KV power line using a crane. While lowering the electric pole into the pit, Umesh and Shankarachari held the pole so that it could be lowered correctly. As soon as they touched the pole, they were electrocuted and fell into the pit.

It is learnt that CESC was not informed about replacing the electric pole and hence, power supply was not switched off which led to the tragedy. Based on the complaint from deceased Umesh’s father, KRS Police have registered a case against stone crushing unit owner Krishnaraju, crane owner, excavator owner and CESC Mandya Division officials.
