Row over construction of illegal compound near Bhyrava temple
Devaraja Police have taken two persons into custody in connection with an alleged assault bid by a group of six persons on Corporator Prashanth Gowda at Tripura Bhyrava temple premises here yesterday evening and the miscreants allegedly snatch a 80-gram gold chain from him before fleeing.
Two of the six-member which allegedly assaulted Prashanth Gowda, who have been taken into custody have been identified as Babulal and Kailas.
It is said that the demolition of a compound which had come up illegally on the MCC land adjacent to Tripura Bhyrava temple in Shivarampet by the MCC triggered the attack on Prashanth representing the ward.
Prashanth Gowda, in his complaint with Devaraja Police had said that he was assaulted by a group at about 8 pm on Thursday when he went the temple along with his friend Guruprasad and his chain was snatched at knife point.
It is said that passersby apprehended Babulal and Kailas and handed them over to the Police.
Protesters caned: Police resorted to mild lathi charge when residents staged a protest in front of the temple accusing them of failing to provide security to an elected representative.
Meanwhile, MUDA Chairman Dhruvakumar, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, Corporator D. Nagabhushan and others who visited Devaraja Police Station, sought stern action against the culprits.
Dhruvakumar, who spoke, urged the DC to inspect the spot and take steps to hand over the temple to the Muzrai Department.
