Mysore/Mysuru: In separate incidents, a 40-year-old woman and a 38-year-old teacher have lost a total of Rs. 6,62,290 to online fraudsters.
In the first case, S. Shilpa, a resident of Vasu Layout in Ramakrishnanagar, received a registered post containing a lucky draw coupon and when she scratched the secret coating, she found that she had won Rs. 12.50 lakh as prize.
She then sent the photo of the prize-winning coupon to WhatsApp No. 84363-70335, which was mentioned in the coupon. A few minutes later, she received a call on her mobile phone and the caller told her that she would get a mail from the RBI and told her to transfer money in four instalments to receive the prize money of Rs. 12.50 lakh, following which Shilpa transferred a total of Rs. 1,01,290 and was cheated.
In the second case, Nagaraj, a teacher and a resident of Bhyraveshwaranagar, received a message regarding availability of part time jobs and contacted the number.
He received a link of a Telegram app and clicked the link, followed the instructions and transferred a total of Rs. 5,61,000, but did not receive any commission nor got back the money he had transferred, thus getting cheated. Both the cases have been registered at city’s CEN Police Station.
