U-13 State Chess Championship: City’s Hemadri emerges runner-up

Hemadri Sathish of Mysuru emerged runner-up in the U-13 Karnataka State Girls Chess Championship which was conducted at Vokkaligara Samudaya Bhavana in Shivamogga from May 17 to 19.

The 9 Round Swiss event, organised by Nalanda Chess Academy, Shivamogga, attracted 90 players from 13 districts for Rs.20,000 Prize Money.

Hemadri scored 7.5 points out of 9 rounds as she lost her 6th round to Sanjana Raghunath  (1508 Rating) from Bengaluru who won the Championship by scoring 8 points out of possible 9.

Sanjana and Hemadri will be now representing Karnataka State in the forthcoming U-13 Nationals to be held at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) from June 14.

Hemadri, a 8th standard student of Christ the King Convent in Mysuru, is the daughter of Businessman Sathish and Jyothi. She is coached by S. Suresh of Mysore Chess Centre, Mysuru.

FIDE Rated Tournament

Nalanda Chess Academy, Shivamogga, had also organised the FIDE Rated U-13 Open Karnataka State Chess Championship Tournament at Vokkaligara Samudaya Bhavana in Shivamogga from May 17 to 19. The 9 Round Swiss event for players under the age of 13 years attracted 192 players from 13 different districts.

Out of 192 players, 70 were FIDE rated. Total Cash Prize for the Open Rated Tournament was Rs.50,000.

Bengaluru players Samith Reddy (1518 rating), Archan Chetan Anand (1630) and Tejas Suresh Kumar (1524) have scored 7.5 points at the end of 9 rounds but Samith Reddy emerged as Champion by virtue of better tie break score (51) and Archan Chetan Anand satisfied for runner-up position (50.5).

Samith and Archan will be representing Karnataka in the forthcoming U-13 Nationals to be held at Ahmedabad from June 14.
