UGD workers stop work, stage protest

Mysore/Mysuru: Urging the Government to consider them as Pourakarmikas, provide facilities being given to Pourakarmikas and to make them permanent employees, UGD workers, under the banner of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Permanent and Contract Employees Association and UGD Workers Association, stopped their works and staged a protest near the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) yesterday morning.

There are 231 UGD workers and as permission was denied to stage protest by everyone, only 20 UGD workers staged a protest on behalf of others by maintaining social distance while the rest stayed at a park nearby. 

The protesting UGD workers later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Tahsildar Borappa at the DC Office. 

Meanwhile, MLA L. Nagendra, who arrived at the spot, also received the memorandum from the protestors and assured them of talking to the Government and help them, following which the protest was withdrawn.

Former Mayor Narayan, who is also the President of Karnataka State City Corporation, Municipal Council and Town Council Pourakarmikas Mahasangha, MCC UGD Workers Association Working President Kumaraswamy, Pourakarmika leader N. Mara, MCC UGD Workers Association President Palani and others took part in the protest.
