Un-lock-ing tradition…

Mysore/Mysuru: Your visit to Hunar Haat at Maharaja’s College Grounds will  be incomplete if you miss to visit the Stall  No. C-59 of Javed Husain from Civil Lines of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, who has brought with him hundreds of deigns of handmade locks. 

From Gods and Goddesses to animals and birds, the stall features variety of designs, including three-key locks, hand-crafted at “J. Kraft – Collection of Handicraft Products” — factory of Javed Husain back at his hometown.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Javed said “Many a people visiting my stall here said that they were seeing such hand-crafted antique locks for the first time and appreciated the designs. Also, many purchased various designs of locks and I am having quite a good business.”

Stating that his forefathers too were into the same business, Javed said that he learnt the art from his father late Mudasir Husain. 

“Now, I have 7-8 persons working with me; I take care of the production side and my brother looks into marketing part,” said Javed who says his locks are completely of brass material and they do not use springs in it; They are completely manual. Price of these traditional locks ranges from Rs. 30 to Rs. 1,500 each.
