Procession marks Second District Convention of construction workers in city
Mysore/Mysuru: Accusing the Union Government of failing to protect the interests of construction workers, Karnataka State Construction and Other Workers Federation President Balakrishna Shetty alleged that the Centre is out to destroy Construction Workers Welfare Board.
He was speaking at the Second District Convention of Construction Workers at the Institution of Engineers on JLB Road here yesterday.
Stating that the Construction Workers Welfare Board had introduced 19 welfare schemes and facilities, Shetty alleged that the Centre was removing the welfare schemes one by one.
Noting that one such was the recent reduction in academic funding, he said that the Federation moved the Karnataka High Court in this regard and the Court has ruled in their favour.
Charging that the Construction Workers Welfare Board was mired in corruption, Shetty maintained that crores of rupees has been spent unnecessarily in the name of kits purchase and health check-up camps.
Shetty announced that the 5th State-level Convention of the Federation would take place in Koppal district on Oct.24 and 25.
Meritorious children of construction workers, who have scored high marks in SSLC and PUC were presented Pratibha Puraskar on the occasion.
Earlier, a procession was taken out from Gun House Circle via Basaveshwara Circle, Chamaraja Double Road, Ramaswamy Circle and JLB Road before culminating at the Institution of Engineers, where the Federation’s flag was hoisted.
State Anganwadi Workers Association General Secretary H.S. Sunanda, Federation office-bearers C.B. Naveen Kumar, H.M. Basavaiah, K.C. Krishna and N.K. Balaji Rao, Trade Union leaders Jagadish Surya, B. Channakeshava, V. Somashekar, H.S. Jagadish and others were present.
