Universal Tribute to Bannanje Govindacharya on Mar.15

Mysore/Mysuru: This year (2026) marks what would have been the 90th birth year of Philosopher and Sanskrit scholar Bannanje Govindacharya. Had he been with us physically, the grandeur of the celebration would have been of a different magnitude.

As thousands continue to live their lives through his teachings even today, Parampare, Mysuru and  Bannanje Govindacharya Pratishtana, Bengaluru, have organised ‘Vishwa Namana’ (Universal Tribute) to Bannanje Govindacharya in Mysuru tomorrow (Mar. 15) from 5.30 pm onwards at Ganabharathi’s Ramagovinda Kalavedike, Kuvempunagar.

Sanskrit scholar Vidwan Dr. H.V. Nagaraja Rao will preside and will be the main speaker. Artist Ganjifa Raghupathi Bhat and Jayashree Shyanbhag, who  knew Bannanje closely, will share memories of their association with him. Vid. G.N. Bhatta will speak on the dimension of Bannanje Govindacharya as a Sanskrit scholar.

On behalf of Bannanje Govindacharya Pratishtana, the driving  force behind this institution Prof. Mallepuram G. Venkatesh, former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Sanskrit University, will deliver the introductory remarks.  Veena Bannanje will also speak.

Bannanje Govindacharya’s poems will be rendered by Kavitha Udupa and Suma Shastri.

So far, this commemorative programme has been held across 14 districts in Karnataka. In every location, it is the followers and admirers of Bannanje who have stood up to organise these events.
