Unnecessary blockage of traffic on Irwin Road

Sir,

The widening work of Irwin Road has led to demolition of acquired buildings as a first step by the authorities concerned. Due to this, traffic movement on Irwin Road stretch between Ayurveda Circle and Nehru Circle is blocked, causing undue hardship to daily commuters travelling between Railway Station and Sub-Urban Bus Stand. Also many ambulances ply on this Road to K.R. Hospital with emergency patients on board.

Hardly one or two building demolition is undertaken per day for which the entire Road is blocked. The authorities are requested to cover the building to be demolished with safety nets and tarpaulins which will avoid dust pollution and inconvenience to adjacent building occupants.

In other major cities where development works are undertaken, a similar approach is taken to ensure smooth traffic movement apart from providing safety to public and traffic passing through. Just blocking the traffic is not the solution.

Even when the Road and drain works commence, I suggest that work of one side, that is right or left side on entire stretch, be completed first and then move on with work on other side — thus enabling at least one-way traffic on Irwin Road at all time.

As Irwin Road has no major alternate Road, I urge the authorities to ensure scientific approach of Road widening which will cause less hardship to daily commuters. Also the works can be taken up during night-time as there will be less traffic.
