Mysuru: The Department of Studies in Social Work, University of Mysore (UoM), has instituted an Endowment and Gold Medal in the name of Prof. Y. S. Siddegowda, who superannuated on Oct. 31.
The Department and the MSW Socialites (Alumni Association of Students of Social Work, UoM) had jointly organised a felicitation programme to Prof. Siddegowda on his superannuation on 31.10.2019.
To commemorate his 37 years of service in teaching, research and administration, a series of activities were held — like planting 37 saplings in the Department premises from 7 to 8 am; a National Conference on the theme “Social Work Education and Practice — An Indian Perspective” between 10 am and to 4pm followed by a formal felicitation programme between 4 pm and 5.30 pm which was attended by Professors, teachers, Research Scholars and students from various Universities in India.
The Gold Medal in his name will be given to the student who hails from rural background and secures highest marks in the MSW course. Every year this Medal will be presented during the UoM convocation.
The endowment in the name of Prof. Siddegowda, who is currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University, will have a special lecture every year by the Department of Studies in Social Work, for the benefit of Social Work teachers, Research Scholars and students, according to a press release from Department Chairman Chandramouli.
