Mysore/Mysuru: Demanding the release of scholarships, the research scholars attached to the University of Mysore held a protest in front of Kuvempu statue at the main entrance of Manasagangothri campus in the city yesterday.
Alleging that the University, through SC/ST Special Cell, had not invited scholarship applications for the academic year 2022-23, the protestors said that those who had applied for scholarships during 2021-22 were released and added that out of a total of 39 research scholars, who had applied for scholarships in 2023-24, the University had released scholarships for only 20 scholars.
The protestors also mentioned that as per the University rules only 20 research scholars would be paid the scholarships every year. “However, with the University not inviting applications for the academic year 2022-23, it should release the scholarships for two years,” they said.
Stating that the research scholars came from a poor and rural background, the protestors demanded the University to release the scholarships to all 39 applicants and pave the way for quality research works.
L. Lingaraj, Pradeep Mummudi, Sharath Bandalli, Pramod, Yogesh, Kiran Kumar, Harish, Chethan, Shankar, Subramanya and others took part in the protest.
