Mysore/Mysuru: With hardly any demand from candidates and lack of job opportunities for those having M.Phil qualification, the University of Mysore (UoM) is set to stop the course.
In a circular issued on July 13, the UoM said that no fresh admissions will be made for M.Phil courses in any discipline and the course has been withdrawn as per a UGC decision.
M.Phil was a one-year course after Post-Graduation. Hitherto, those with M.Phil qualification, were exempted from the entrance test for Ph.D admission.
UoM Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa said that from this year there will not be any enrolment for M.Phil courses following UGC direction. He pointed out that with increased importance for Ph.D, the demand for M. Phil started dwindling and there were no takers now. As the eligibility criteria for both M.Phil and Ph.D are the same, students prefer Ph.D which provides scope for research and ensures better career prospects, he added.
