Mysore/Mysuru: Taking note of the long delay in the payment of pension to retired University of Mysore (UoM) teaching and non-teaching faculty, the UoM Syndicate Member Dr. T.R. Chandrashekar has appealed the Vice-Chancellor to ensure payment of pension regularly and on time.
Maintaining that the delay in payment of pension has been an administrative failure of the UoM, he said that as a result University pensioners are finding it difficult to meet their daily needs.
Noting that retired employees have the right to get their pension on time, he quoted a Supreme Court ruling which said that the delay or uncertainty over payment of pensions is a violation of the provisions under Col. 21 of the Constitution.
“The University’s argument that the delay is due to lack of internal funds is not acceptable. It is the responsibility of the VC to hold talks and co-ordinate with the Government on sanction of adequate funds to meet the Varsity’s future needs. The pension crisis has dented the prestige of the over a century-old University, which should come up with a clear action plan,” he said.
