UoM to form Committee to look into appointment of excess non-teaching staff

Mysore/Mysuru: Even as it grapples for funds to meet the functional expenses, the University of Mysore (UoM)has decided to form a Committee to look into complaints on appointment of excess non-teaching staff in the University.

This decision was taken at the recent University Syndicate meeting which was chaired by  UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath.

The alleged excess staff have been appointed since 2014 and right now there are as many 1,198 non-regular or contract employees in the University.

Taking note of the University’s financial crunch, the Government’s Finance Department  sent a number of circulars in 2020  asking the University to take suitable action against appointment of excess employees as these alleged unnecessary appointments were draining the University’s finances.

The UoM Syndicate meeting held recently took note of the Government circulars and decided to form a Committee comprising legal experts and higher officers, as the appointments come under legal and administrative purview.

The Syndicate resolved to discuss the report to be given by the Committee, at its next meeting as the livelihood of over a thousand employees will be at stake, according to Syndicate member Gokul Govardhan.

Six nominated to UoM Syndicate

Meanwhile, the Government has nominated six new members to the Varsity Syndicate. According to an order issued by Sheetal Hiremath, Under-Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Mahadesh of Vijayanagar in city, Prof. Shabbir Mohammad Mustafa of Bannimantap, Dr. G. Shilpa of Madhuvana Layout, C. Nagaraj of Kyatanahalli, Dr. C. Basavaraju of Jettihundi  near Yelwal and H.S. Nataraju of Haropura, are the ones who are nominated.
