Urban Local Body polls deferred to Aug. 31

Bengaluru: Following the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the State Election Commission yesterday deferred the date for Urban Local Body elections to Aug. 31.

The elections were earlier scheduled for Aug. 29 and now after deferment, the polls will be held on Aug. 31 for 105 Urban Local Bodies and three City Corporations in the State. As per the revised election calendar, the last date for filing of nominations will be Aug.18 as Aug.17 has been declared a holiday.

However, the last date for filing of nomination papers to Mysuru City Corporation and two other Corporation polls is Aug. 20.  The three City Corporations will go to polls on Aug. 31 and the counting of votes will be taken up on Sept. 3.
