US Surgeon General urges parents to vaccinate kids

Washington: Dr. Vivek Murthy, the Indian-origin US Surgeon General, has urged parents world over to go for the Covid paediatric vaccine after his five-year-old son took the shot.

“Like so many parents, I was thrilled and relieved when my 5-year-old son got his #COVID19 vaccine last week. He was a little nervous when the time came but all smiles afterward. He’s been proudly showing off his ‘I’m vaccinated’ sticker,” the Surgeon tweeted.

“My wife and I are two of millions of parents who have been waiting all this time for the opportunity to protect our kids from COVID-19. Now, we finally have that chance. There are few things that feel better than knowing your child is more safe,” he said in another tweet.

He said that the vaccine dose and the vaccine trials were specifically tailored for the kids.

“Studies showed it was >90 percent effective at protecting our kids from symptomatic COVID and there were no serious adverse events (strong safety profile),” he added.

Many countries have rolled out COVID vaccination for children.
