Bengaluru: Commuters can use their FASTag card on the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) Road, which is amongst the busiest roads, from this month.
The NICE officials are now finalising the details and technical glitches before officially introducing it for all vehicles, just like the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Roads.
The absence of FASTag has been leading to long queues at NICE Toll Plazas, as only cash is accepted. According to sources, the rates will be the same as that of what is being charged at present and the mode of payment will now be either cash or through FASTag smart cards.
The MoU was signed on Sept. 30 with Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL) for introducing FASTag and trials have been going on since last two weeks. Though FASTag was to be introduced on NICE Road in March, it was not implemented as the company had violated the contract terms and conditions stated in the Council meeting by PWD Minister Govind Karjol. But an official of NICE stated that the problem was because of lack of co-ordination between the State and Centre. As it was a State Government project, many details were needed and the money paid through FASTag will be given to the company through National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system.
