Use of high-beam lights attributed to lack of streetlights

Sir,

This refers to Dr. S.V.N. Vijayendra’s write-up in connection with the accident at RTO Circle. I whole-heartedly agree with him that most of the vehicle drivers are misusing the high-beam lights within city limits and flouting traffic rules.

But after dusk, most of the roads in Mysuru do not have streetlights and the ones that have lights, are shrouded by tree branches. Due to this major problem, motorists are forced to use high-beam lights and this creates most of the accidents post-dusk. Of course, this also happens due to lack of education.

If the authorities concerned install streetlights on all the roads and trim the tree branches, motorists will not be inclined to use high-beam lights.
