Use of mobile phone while driving on the rise

Policemen inside the Mobile Command Centre keeping a vigil on vehicle movement in city this morning.

Sir,

I have been observing these days, more number of drivers, especially two-wheelers, bending their head and holding mobile on one hand while driving. In the process, their concentration on road is diverted.

They fail to understand the danger, risking their life and others’ also. I wonder how they control the vehicle with one hand when they apply brake.

In this direction, I wish to offer my suggestions:

The concerned enforcing department can explore the possibility of installing a few hidden cameras (other than cameras already installed at signals) to record such traffic violations.

Violators should be fined by sending notices and there should be strict law to cancel their licence if they repeat their mistakes. With the modern technology, this is definitely possible to implement. Once this process gets momentum and those guilty are penalised heavily for their fault, there will be drastic reduction in using mobile phones while driving.

Initially, the installation of cameras will go as an expenditure but gradually, this will prove as an investment besides saving precious human lives. A beginning can be made at the earliest.
