Mysore/Mysuru: Champaka Educational and Cultural Trust, Mysuru, has organised the ‘Vaishakha’ edition (13th edition) of Champaka Rashtreeya Kalaa Utsava at Champaka Academy premises in Ramakrishnanagar on June 8 at 4.30 pm, showcasing Bharatanatyam performances from accomplished artistes from Udupi and Mysuru.
The evening will start by honouring Dr. K. Kumar, Head, Department of Dance, University College of Fine Arts, University of Mysore (UoM) and his wife Dr. G. Malathy, renowned Senior Paediatrician, Department of Paediatrics, District Hospital, Mysuru, for their yeoman service to arts and culture in city through their organisation Kumar Performing Arts Centre (KPAC).
The monthly arts festival conducted by them — International Nirantara Kalemane Festival — has run successfully for over 3 years now, giving a huge boost to the performing arts landscape at Mysuru.
Dr. Kumar was also the research guide for the doctoral thesis ‘Rasotpatti in Laasyangaas – An analytical study’ by Champaka Academy Founder Vidushi Dr. Nagalakshmi Nagarajan at UoM.
The first dance presentation of the evening will be by the disciples of Vidushi Pavana, Founder of Sharada Nrithyalaya, Marpalli, Udupi, followed by the disciples of Vidushi Arathi Arun, Founder and Director of Shri Ganesha Sangeetha Nrithyalaya Charitable Trust.
Professor Dr. C.A. Sreedhara, retired Principal of Maharaja’s College, UoM, Mysuru, will be the chief guest.
