‘Values imparted to children will reflect as they grow old’

Mysuru: “Parents, who want their children to study well and work in a foreign country, at a later stage feel isolated and are forced to lead their own life,” opined Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha General Secretary Shankar Halagatti.

He was speaking after inaugurating State-level Children Musical Festival (Chinnara Sangeethotsava) organised jointly by  Guru Puttaraja (SGP) Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru and Karnataka Balavikas Academy, Dharwad, at Ganabharathi in Kuvempunagar on Saturday. “The values parents impart to their children will reflect as they grow old. To cite an example, a friend of mine used to take his son to the musical programmes which he used to participate. Now, that boy has become a good violinist,” said Shankar Halagatti.

Lauding Bhimashankar Bidanur for encouraging children’s talent through SGP Sangeetha Sabha by organising State-level Music Programmes and providing them a good platform, Shankar Halagatti said that if parents impart good values from tender age to their age of marriage, they will take care of their parents when they become old.

“Parents residing in urban areas take very good care of their children, give them good education and happily encourage their children if they want to study and work abroad. But the aged parents don’t know that their happiness is short-lived. Because when there is fluctuation in the health of parents, most of the children will not come to be with their parents and eventually send them to old age homes. This has become a common social issue. Earlier, there was not even a single old age home in Dharwad. Now, there are four,” he concluded.

Dharwad’s Satvika G. Mahamane presented a violin concert and Abhinandan S. Gavimath and Abhishek K. Athreya, disciples of Dr. Sandhya Bhatta of Swara Sadhana Sangeetha Academy, have a Hindustani Classical Music Concert.

Children also took part in vachana gayana, saxophone recital, group tabla recital, devotional songs rendition, bharatanatyam, folk dance and percussion concert.

Nagalingegowda, President, Gramaranga Samskrutika Vedike, Pandavapura and G.N. Manjunath, Announcer, Akashvani, Mysuru, were present during the function.
