Mysuru: Dr. C. Naganna, writer and academician, has been selected for Vardhamana Prashasti-2017 for his work “Kallalla Kamanabillu” (Not a Rock but a Rainbow), a collection of critical essays.
The award, instituted under the aegis of ‘Mudubidare Vardhamana Prashasti Peetha’, will be conferred on him during the ‘Dasara Sahityotsava’ in October 2018 at Mudubidare. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.25,000 and a plaque.
‘Vardhamana Udayonmukha Sahitya Prashasti’ is shared by Prof. T. Yallappa (for his collection of poems ‘Chitte mattu Jeevayana’) and Abdul Hameed Pakkaladka (for his collection of short stories ‘Bhrame’). They will share Rs.15,000 between them.
Prof. Naganna has penned some 30 books, both in Kannada and English so far, which majorly include criticism and translation. His Kannada translation of Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” as “Bhanga” is very well received. After quite a long stint at the University Evening College and Maharaja’s College, Mysore, as teacher of English, Dr. Naganna served as Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies at the University of Mysore before his retirement recently.
As Director of Prasaranga for nearly 6 years he was instrumental in the publication of many works of significance.
