Dr. Varsha S. Puranik, from Mysuru, representing Karnataka in the Indian team skating selection trials held at Noida yesterday, earned selection to represent the country in the Asian Games to be held at Jakarta, Indonesia.
Dr. Varsha Puranik, a Ekalavya Award winner, who works as a doctor at Cauvery Fortis in city, won first place in the 20kms road race for women in the selection trials. Dr. Arti Kasturiraj of Tamil Nadu finished second.
Dr. Arti Kasturiraj (TN) and Mysuru’s Rea Elizabeth Achaia have been selected as stand-byes for the Indian team.
Dr. Varsha is trained by Indian team skating coach Srikant Rao of Rao’s Roller Skating Club, Mysuru.
