Mysuru: Varamahalakshmi Vratha has become a popular regional festival with almost all women worshipping Goddess Lakshmi to be bestowed with wealth and prosperity.
As part of the festival, the ongoing ‘Vastra Utsav-2017’ form July 21 at JSS Mysore Urban Haat premises on Ring Road in Hebbal Industrial Area has been attracting a lot of crowd with its eye-catching textiles and handicrafts.
More than 60 weavers, societies and master artisans are participating in the utsav with their exclusive items.
Up for grabs at affordable prices are traditional Molakalmuru Silk Sarees, Kanjivaram Pure Silk sarees, West Bengal Kantha sarees, Karnataka Ilakal sarees and other popular varieties. Also on exhibition and sale are cotton sarees, Lehenga skirt and blouse, embroidered dress materials, salwar suits, ethnic zari work sarees and dresses, towels, bed sheets, bead works and clay articles.
Terracotta Jewellery crafted by artisans of West Bengal are a special attraction and are made as per taste of customer.
Leather bags from Shantinikethan made exclusively from goat leather are attracting visitors. Similarly Eco-friendly Udyog with an initiative to promote eco-friendly products has displayed clay utensils and jute products and it is a morale booster for the potter community who are lacking market opportunities. For the belly, there are a variety of gulkhan, dry fruits and honey.
The Utsav is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm with free entry and concludes on Aug. 6.
