Mysore/Mysuru: The Centre for Geoinformatics Technology, Department of Geography, Manasagangothri, has been awarded with funds to offer a 21-day online winter school training programme on “Geospatial Science and Technology”, under the “National Geospatial Programme” initiative by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, from Dec. 6 to 28.
University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar will inaugurate the programme tomorrow at 10 am at R.P. Misra Hall, DoS in Geography, Manasagangothri.
Prof. K.S. Rangappa, former Vice-Chancellor, UoM and Prof. A. Balasubramanian, former Professor, Department of Earth Science, Manasagangothri, will be the chief guests.
Prof. P. Jayashree, Chairperson, Department of Geography, Organising Committee members Dr. D. Dutta, Scientist, DST, Dr. Shubha Pandey, Scientist, DST, Prof. Shamitha Kumar, Coordinator, DST, Prof. Ramu, Principal Investigator Co-ordinator, Centre for Geoinformatics Technology, Prof. Asima Nusrath, Prof. B. The applications of Geospatial Science and Technology includes air-to-ground land surveying, mapping of geographical space and analytics for better understanding of the socio-economic and environmental problems, through the adopted technologies like GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Laser Scanning and Drone Technologies. In this view, the training programme has participants across the nation which includes faculty members, scientists, researchers, technologists from various Government and Non-Governmental Organisations.
