Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru Rakshana Vedike has urged the State Government to shelve ‘Greater Mysuru’ proposal along construction of flyovers and tunnels to retain Mysuru as the Heritage City.
Addressing press persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city yesterday, Vedike President M.K. Premkumar said that proposal to change the name of Mysuru to Greater Mysuru would be a move against the Heritage City developed by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
Stating that Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar had also expressed his opinion against proposed construction of flyover, Premkumar said that construction could damage the heritage structures located along Vinoba Road & JLB Road and also the underground water pipelines.
“Mysuru already has 65 Wards with most of them having no adequate drinking water supply. Despite KRS Dam being closer to Mysuru, people are being denied River Cauvery water in the heart of the city and UGD and waste segregation issues have only added to the problems existing in the city,” he added.
He also said that State Govt. must solve the existing issues like footpath encroachments and bad roads instead of constructing flyovers and tunnels.
