Mysore/Mysuru: Vedic scholars — Vidwans Pallatadka Shankarnarayan Bhat of Belagavi, K. Rajagopalacharya of Bengaluru, T.N. Prabhakar of Turuvekere, G. Mahabaleshwar Bhat of Sringeri and Vidushi Dinamani Srinivasmurthy of Mysuru — were felicitated by former IAS officer A. Ramaswamy at a programme organised by the city’s Vedshashtra Poshini Sabha at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road here recently.
Also, the family members of late Vidwans S. Krishnamurthy Bhat of Sagara and Sridhar Sesha of Gokarna and former IAS officer A. Ramaswamy couple of Bengaluru were felicitated on the occasion.
Sanskrit Scholar H.V. Nagarajrao said that Vedas and Shastras are the pillars of our culture.
Observing that we have reached a point where those who recite slokas are called as scholars, he said that the knowledge that could be seen in scholars about 60 years ago cannot be seen in the scholars now. Stressing on the need for understanding the meaning of lokas rather than just rendering it, he said that we must at least learn Sanskrit at a time when foreigners are coming to the country to learn Vedas and Shastras.
He lauded the Vedashastra Poshini Sabha for promoting the cause of Vedashastra and felicitation of scholars every year.
Sabha President Prof. B.N. Nagaraj Bhat, Hon. Secretary A.M. Chandrashekar, Vidwan Dr. N. Subramanya Bhat, Vidwan Dr. T.V. Satyanarayana, Vidwan Kumara Bhat, Narayan Hegde and others were present.
