Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of their various demands, vehicle drivers, under the banner of Karnataka Vehicle Drivers Welfare Association, presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here yesterday.
The memorandum said that though the Government had said that 7.75 lakh vehicle drivers would benefit by Rs. 5,000 one-time financial assistance announced by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa four months ago during the COVID-19 lockdown, hardly 1.2 lakh drivers have got assistance, while a majority of drivers are yet to receive the same.
Stating that the Government has to renew vehicle permit, Insurance and Motor Vehicle Taxes for free in the wake of COVID-19 crisis, the memorandum urged for free education to children of drivers, granting of Rs. 5 lakh subsidised loan to commercial vehicle owners, waiver of vehicle loan instalments and interest and reduction of fuel prices as had been done by Delhi Government, among other things.
