Karnataka Arya Vysya Mahasabha Muti-purpose Building that is coming up on Choudri Appaji Setty Dharmachatra site on Geetha Mandir Road, is estimated to cost Rs. 5.5 crore. The building will house separate hostels for boys and girls of the community, a competitive exams guidance centre, a guest house and a residential facility.
Mysore/Mysuru: Veteran BJP leader and former Legislative Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy laid the foundation stone for the construction of Karnataka Arya Vysya Mahasabha Multi-purpose Building on Geetha Mandir Road in Lashkar Mohalla here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Arya Vysya Mahasabha has been rendering yeoman service to the society for the past several decades.
Pointing out that the Mahasabha has been conducting coaching classes for Civil Services and other Competitive Exams at Bengaluru itself, he said this has prevented the aspirants from going all the way to New Delhi.
Noting that the Mahasabha has so far collected 6,017 units of blood from donors, he said that Mahasabha President R.P. Ravishankar himself has donated blood 76 times so far.
Stating that the Mahasabha’s Multi-Purpose Building also houses a Community Student Hostel, Shankaramurthy said that it is the responsibility of the Mahasabha to ensure that every member of the community gets necessary facilities and the construction of the building is an important step in that direction.
Mahasabha State President R.P. Ravishankar said that the Mahasabha came into existence in Mysuru long back in 1908. Later, the Mahasabha moved to Bengaluru in 1914 and got a site in Bengaluru from the then Mysuru Maharajas in 1922.
Expressing confidence that the construction of the building would be complete by the end of next year, he maintained that the Mahasabha is not restricted to the community alone and covers all other deprived sections of the society as well. The Mahasabha has reserved 75 percent of the benefits extended by it to the community members and 25 percent to other sections of the society, he added.
