Sir,
Apropos the letter titled “Video-shoot of classroom lecture, a novel idea indeed” by T.S. Narayana Rao (Star of Mysore dated Mar. 18), I am also of the opinion that it is a very good proposal from the point of view of teachers and also from the students’ perspective.
Of course, what Dr S. Dandapani has said in his letter is very much true.
It is the responsibility of the senior teachers to guide and motivate the budding teachers in the right direction so that they can deliver the lectures efficiently.
In this regard the institutions have initiated a number of sponsored workshops, summer and winter school programmes, faculty development programmes etc. We are now in the era of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which mainly focuses on student-centric rather than teacher-centric. It is a collaborative learning process in which the student instead of being a passive listener, will be an active participant in the knowledge dissemination process. Hence it is very essential for the students to interact and communicate not only with the teacher but also among themselves in the classroom.
Video-shooting in classroom not only reflects the performance of the teachers but also the students performance. At the end of the day both of them know where they stand. This in turn will definitely help the teacher to improve his/ her teaching capability and also the students to improve his/ her learning capability.
In order to achieve effective teaching learning process the management of the institution must create a conducive environment for the teachers to work with pride and dignity.
