Mysore/Mysuru: Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru, is organising a Grand Hindustani Classical Vocal Concert by Vidu. Shreemathi Devi at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar here on May 26 at 6 pm.
She will be accompanied by Pt. Sagar Bharathraj on tabla and Pt. Prasad Kamath on harmonium.
This concert is organised in memory of Kalaseva Ratna late K.V. Murthy who patronised music in most Sabhas in Mysuru.
Vidu. Shreemathi Devi is a disciple of Pt. Chandrashekar Puranikmath, a famous vocalist of Gwalior Gharana, Pt. Narayana Pandith of Honnavara and advance training from Pt. Vyasa Murthy Katty of Bengaluru and Vidu. Padma Talwalkar of Pune. She is currently under the tutelage of Vidu. Apoorva Gokhale of Mumbai. A B-High grade artiste of AIR in classical vocal and light music genres. Vidu. Shreemathi Devi is a recepient of the ‘Scholarship for young artistes’ instituted by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India (2010-2012) and the Scholarship by Sangeetha Nritya Academy, Government of Karnataka. She has received many accolades and has won 2nd prize in AIR Music Contest in Hindustani Vocal (2010).
Dr. Sagar Bharathraj, who will be accompanying her on tabla, is the son and disciple of Bharathraj Venkat Rao from Calicut, who is a senior disciple of Omkar Gulvady.
Dr. Sagar, a research scientist in Chemical Engineering, is now pursuing his advanced training in music from Pt. Ravindra Yavagal.
The harmonium accompaniment for Sunday is by Pt. Prasad Kamath, a child prodigy. He is the disciple of Vid. Mahabaleshwar Bhagawath and is currently under the tutelage of renowned harmonium maestro and composer Sudhir Nayak, Mumbai.
