Villagers stop illegal transportation of calves

Srirangapatna: Villagers stopped a goods vehicle at Srirangapatna this morning. The vehicle was transporting calves to slaughter houses at Arakalgud in Hassan district.

They not only rescued the calves but also took a few of them for rearing.

The incident took place near  Darasaguppe on Chamarajanagar-Jevargi Highway coming under Srirangapatna Town Police limits.

The goods vehicle (KA-45-A-0449) said to be transporting more than 50 calves from Mysuru to Arakalgud, was stopped by the villagers at Darasaguppe. On inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with calves and the villagers began to shift the calves from the vehicle to free them from being suffocated.

After removing the calves from the vehicle, they found a few calves with their throats slit and informed Srirangapatna Police.

But by the time the Police arrived, the villagers had allegedly taken away few calves with them.

The Police team, comprising Srirangapatna ASI Annegowda and Constables Prasanna, Nagaraju and Varadaraju have taken Rahin and Amin, who were in the vehicle, into custody and rescued about eight calves.
