Mysuru: Mysuru’s own violinist Mysuru Manjunath and Sitarist Ustad Rafique Khan won the hearts of the music-lovers at the ‘Grand Jugalbandhi’, organised by the Mysore Palace Board, in front of the Mysore Palace yesterday.
They were performing on the second day of the Ugadi Music Festival-2018 and the caressing, lilting melodies from both the instruments took the audience to the depths of Hindustani music.
The performance began with both Manjunath and Rafique Khan playing ‘Vatapi Ganapathim baje’ and for nearly two hours they mesmerised the audience with Hindustani style of music. Vidwan V. Praveen on mridanga and Padma Shri Pandit Vijay Ghate on the tabla accompanied them. Earlier, Mysore University Fine Arts College’s Vidwan R. Raghu rendered Karnatak Classical songs.
Today, there will be Sugama Sangeetha and Film Songs by R.M. Sumanth, Vasisht and troupe at 5.30 pm followed by Karnatak Classical Music by Vidu. Dr. Panthula Rama (vocal), M.S.N. Murthy (violin), H.S. Sudhindra (mridanga) and Phanindra Bhaskar (ghata) from 7 pm to 9 pm.
