Vishwamanava Day in memory of Kuvempu

Mysore/Mysuru: Vishwamanava Day, marking the 122nd birth anniversary of Poet Laureate Kuvempu, was celebrated under the joint aegis of District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC)at Kiru Rangamandira in Kalamandira premises this morning.

Former Prasaranga (University of Mysore) Director Prof. C. Naganna delivered a special lecture on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu.

Earlier, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Kuvempu by MLC C.N. Manjegowda, Kannada and Culture Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy, Assistant Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan and others.

Kuvempu birth anniversary was celebrated at other venues across the city including UoM.

MLA T.S. Srivatsa garlanding Poet Laureate Kuvempu’s statue on Vishwamanava Double Road this morning in the presence of Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal and others.

Rich tributes were paid to Rashtrakavi Kuvempu at Vishwamanava Day celebration organised by Karnataka State Open University(KSOU) at Cauvery auditorium in Muktagangothri campus along Hunsur Road this morning.

Maharaja’s College Kannada faculty Prof. T.K. Kempegowda, who was the chief guest, delivered a special lecture on the legacy of Kuvmepu.

Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Kuvempu on the occasion.

KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sharanappa V. Halse presided.

KSOU Registrar Prof. N.K. Naveen Kumar, Registrar (Evaluation) Dr. C.S. Anandkumar, Dean (Academic) Prof. M. Ramanatham Naidu, Finance Officer Prof. S. Niranjanraj and others were present.

At BJP Office

Kuvempu Jayanti was also celebrated at the city BJP Office in Chamarajapuram this morning.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Prof. Paramesh said Kuvempu had advocated that everyone should live as a Vishwamanava and had called upon Kannadigas to read and write in Kannada out of love for our mother-tongue.

Accordingly, we should develop a sense of pride about Kannada as our language of communication  and for being a Kannadiga,  he said adding that Kuvempu’s messages have earned global attention.

City BJP President L. Nagendra, District President K.N. Subbanna, MLA T.S. Srivatsa, party leaders N.V. Phaneesh, Mangala Somashekar and others were present on the occasion.
