Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. Vidya Raja, a versatile vocalist and musicologist from Bengaluru, will be presenting a vocal concert at the heritage house of Mysore Vasudevacharya in city, on Nov. 5 between 10 am and 12 noon.
She will be accompanied by Vid. Arunachala Karthik on violin and Vidu. Ranjani S. Venkatesh on mridanga. The concert at the Acharya’s house is open to all music enthusiasts.
Profiles: Dr. Vidya Raja, who was initiated into Karnatak music during early childhood, has been performing in the concert arena for the past two decades.
She has been trained under erudite scholars and Gurus, including Prof. Radha Venkatachalam. Her advance training was at the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, Delhi University, where she obtained her Ph.D in Karnatak Vocal music, having worked on the thesis “The Impact of Indian Music Training on the Mathematical Achievement in Children”. A graded artiste of AIR, she has performed concerts and delivered lecture demonstrations at various sabhas all over South India and in Australia and UK. She has also published papers on technical topics of Karnatak Music in journals of repute.
Vid. Arunachala Karthik has received advanced violin training from Vid. C.N. Chandrasekhar and Parur M.S. Gopalakrishnan and had training in vocal from Mangalam Shankar. A Computer Engineer by qualification, he is graded B-High in AIR and is pursuing music full-time, as a performer and teacher. He has played in concerts organised by major Sabhas in Chennai and has accompanied many well established artistes.
Vidu. Ranjani Venkatesh has learnt mridanga under Vid. Ballari Mariyanna, Vid. N.G. Ravi and Vid. H.S. Sudhindra. She has also been trained in vocal music by Vidu. Neela Ramgopal. An A-Grade artiste of AIR and Doordarshan, she has accompanied many senior artistes all over India and abroad.
