Mysuru: Ganabharathi has organised a Karnatak music vocal concert by Vid. G. Ravikiran on May 18 at 6 pm at Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar. He will be accompanied by Vidu. Adithi Krishnaprakash on violin, Vid. H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga and Vid. Phanindrabhaskara on ghata.
Profile: G. Ravikiran was initiated into Karnatak music at the age of 9 by Gayatri Keshavan and Vasanta Ramanujam. He was trained for over a decade under veteran Padma Bhushan Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. R.K. Srikantan.
Since 2003, he has been under the training of leading musician T.M. Krishna and is one of his senior most disciples.
He has several awards to his credit — Best Concert by the Madras Music Academy, All India Radio National Competition 1st prize, Voleti Venkateswarulu Endowment Award by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Raga Laya Prabha Award by Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira and Karnataka Gana Kala Parishad Award for Best Youth Performer apart from a host of other prizes.
Ravikiran has performed at several leading venues all over India and has also toured Singapore, Europe, Australia and USA for concerts and lecture demonstrations. Being passionate about the lofty compositions of Muthuswami Dikshitar, he is the founder of Guruguhaamrta which is a Trust dedicated to increasing awareness of the rich legacy of Dikshitar. Through Guruguhaamrta, Ravikiran conducts several programmes dedicated to Dikshitar such as regular Akhandam (day-long musical offering) at Ettayapuram where Dikshitar’s samadhi is located, National-level competitions on Dikshitar Kritis, “Dikshitar Choir” and other such projects.
Ravikiran is also on a project to sing and archive all Dikshitar Kritis in Raganga Ragas of the Venkatamakhin Tradition. Volume 1 of this CD has been released and future volumes are under progress.
