Vocal Concert at RAAGA tomorrow

As part of its monthly music programme, Raaga Music Academy will present Vidu. Dr. H.G. Amrutha Varshini’s vocal concert on Saturday the 16th at Prajna Kuteera Ayurveda Centre, Kuvempunagar at 5.30 pm.

Dr Amrutha Varshini is a senior disciple of ‘Sangeetha Kalacharya’ Vidu. Seetha Rajan of Chennai, who is a direct disciple of the Doyen of Karnatak Music Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. A recipient of many prizes and awards, she is proficient in playing Veena too and is an adept at singing in various genres.

She has performed in many prestigious sabhas in India and the UK. She is also a recipient of UGC’s Junior Research Fellowship. Currently a Guest Faculty in the Department of Performing Arts at the Bangalore University, she, along with her Gurubandhus has established a music centre for Mothers ‘Matrubrundam’ in Bengaluru, which trains mothers to fulfil their musical aspirations.

On Saturday, Dr Amrutha Varshini will be accompanied on the violin by Vid. C.N. Thyagarajan, Vid. Trichy Aravind on the mrudangam and Vid. Vikram Bharadwaj on the ghatam.

Dr. N.V. Krishnamurthy, Director of Prajna Kuteera, will be giving a talk on Healthy Living through Ayurveda and Yoga, prior to the concert, from 4.30 to 5.15 pm. This concert is sponsored by Roddam Family in memory of their mother Yamuna Devi. — Veena Arun Kumar
