Vid. Dr. Harish Narayan and Vid. Sivaraman Arunachalam, both from Chennai, are presenting a vocal duet for Raaga Music Academy, on Saturday the 21st at 5.30 pm, at Prajna Kuteera Ayurveda Centre, Kuvempunagar.
The duo are disciples of Sangitha Sevaniratha Vid. T.P. Vaidyanathan of Mysuru.
Dr. Harish started learning music from Vidushis Suneethi, Vaikkom Saroja, Vid. Chembai Srinivasa Bhagavathar and late Indira Vaidyanathan. A PhD from the Madras University, in addition to performing, he had been teaching at his alma mater and later at Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University. He has won the first place in Ragam Tanam Pallavi competitions at the Madras Music Academy and Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai.
Vid. Sivaraman hails from a family of musicians and started training from the age of six from Gurus Pallavi Trichy Swaminatha Iyer, Dr. Salem Jayalakshmi, Neela Ramgopal, Rohini Manjunath and late Indira Vaidyanathan. A ‘B High’ graded artiste at the AIR and Doordarshan, Sivaraman is a winner of the Musiri Subramanya Iyer award for the Best Young Performing artiste. He is an Asthana Vidwan of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt.
Vid. Vaidyanathan, a veteran performer, teacher, mentor and writer who has moulded several aspiring students, rates this disciple duo as the torch bearers of the lofty traditions, of which he has been an integral part.
On Saturday, the singers will be accompanied by Vid. Keshava on the violin, Vid. A. Radhesh on the mridanga and Vid. S. Ramesh on the morching.
Prior to the concert, Dr. N.V. Krishnamurthy, Director, PrajnaKuteera, will give a talk on Healthy Living through Ayurveda and Yoga, from 4.30 pm to 5.15 pm at the same venue.
