Mysore/Mysuru: As part of National Voters’ Day today, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), District Administration, in association with Zilla Panchayat, had organised a Voter Awareness Jatha from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple to Town Hall this morning.
Speaking after inaugurating the event at Town Hall, Principal District and Sessions Judge S.K. Vontigodi highlighted the importance of voting and appealed to all adults to cast their votes without fail during elections.
“In democracy, voting is a fundamental right. Every citizen must exercise it and motivate his/her family and friends to vote. We have observed that during elections the voters turn out from rural areas is usually higher compared to urban areas. This is because people living in cities consider voting day as a holiday. This is a big mistake. One should realise that voting is a privilege, which should not be taken so lightly,” he said.
Later, prizes were distributed to winners of contests held on the occasion of voting awareness programme held recently. Mysuru ZP CEO K. Jyothi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) B.R. Poornima, MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, MCC Deputy Commissioner Shivananda Murthy and others were present.
