Mysore/Mysuru: For the first time, ‘Surgeons Day’ was celebrated all over the State on June 25 to showcase their achievements, service, importance to the society and to create public awareness about the role of Surgeons and the safety of surgical procedures including keyhole and robotic procedures.
The Karnataka State Chapter of The Association of Surgeons of India (KSCASI) has decided to celebrate ‘Surgeons Day’ every year. This was initiated by Chairman of Karnataka State Chapter Dr. H.V. Shivaram and it was celebrated by all City Branches across the State.
The Surgical Society of Mysore (SSM) celebrated the Day in a novel way by organising a Walkathon/Cyclothon on the morning of June 25.
Around 170 Consultants and Post-Graduate students assembled at J.K. Grounds at 6.30 am and walked a distance of about 2 kms on Sayyaji Rao Road and Dhanvantri Road to create awareness on ‘Public Myths about Common Surgical Ailments.’
Senior surgeon of the city Dr. C.G. Narasimhan flagged off the walkathon. Eminent surgeons Dr. C.P. Madhu (Medical Superintendent, JSS Hospital), Dr. H.N. Dinesh (Professor and HoD of Surgery, K.R. Hospital and President of SSM), Dr. S. Harish (Professor and HoD, JSSMC), Dr. Sarvesha Raje Urs (Hon. Secretary of SSM), Dr. S. Chandrashekar (Treasurer, SSM), Dr. S.P. Preethi (Associate Professor, JSSMC) and Dr. Anand Kumar, both EC Members of KSCASI, took part in the walkathon.
In the evening, a CME was organised at Hotel Southern Star. Dr. K.A. Thimmaiah, Consultant Urologist of Manipal Hospital, spoke on ‘Prostate Diseases and its Management.’
This was followed by felicitation to senior most surgeons of Mysuru — Dr. C.G. Narasimhan, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Dr. S.B. Vasanth Kumar and Dr. Vittal for their contribution to the society in the field of surgery.
