Mysuru: In a bid to create awareness on the importance of kidneys, Sigma Hospital at T.K. Layout and Clearmedi Radiant Hospital at Vijayanagar in city had organised walkathons in city this morning as part of World Kidney Day, which is being observed today.
The walkathon by Sigma Hospital was flagged off by Dr. Murthy, President of Vishwa Shanthi Samsthe at Sanjeevini Park opposite the hospital.
Nearly 200 people including hospital staff and nursing students of BGS Academy For Nursing Science took part in the walkathon.
Carrying placards with messages on the importance of kidneys and ways to keep them healthy, the participants passed through Vishwamanava Double road, New Kantharaj Urs Road, Saraswathi Theatre Road and culminated at Sigma Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P.T. Vipin Kaverappa, Consultant Nephrologist, said that the walkathon was taken out to create awareness among the public on the importance of kidneys in one’s life. He further said that it is difficult to cure kidney problems and hence one should take steps to keep them healthy to prevent diseases.
Managing Director of the Hospital Jnanashankar, Urologist Dr. K.M. Madappa, Dr. Rajeshwari Madappa and Dr. G. Siddesh were present.
Another walkathon was organised by Clearmedi Radiant Hospital at Vijayanagar 3rd stage in city this morning, which was flagged off by MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. Nanjaraj in front of the hospital.
About 200 persons including hospital staff and nursing students of Nataraja School of Nursing, Mysuru, took part in the walkathon, which passed through the main thoroughfares of Vijayanagar before culminating at the starting point.
Head of the Department of Nephrology Dr. Srinivasan, Consultant Urologist Dr. Kiran Kumar, Medical Director Dr. A. Venugopal, Facility Director A.R. Manjunath, Co-ordinator of Nataraja School of Nursing Dr. Rajesh and others were present.
