Watch out for power-related accidents during rain: CESC

Mysuru: With rains expected to lash city in the coming days and the monsoon fast approaching, the CESC has issued advisory to the public on the measures to be taken to prevent electric mishaps that may arise out of tree uprooting, uprooting of electrical poles, snapping of power lines, etc.

• The public are asked to be alert as there is a possibility of snapped power lines on public roads/ motor traffic roads, farms, etc.

• The public must immediately inform the CESC authorities if they come across weak power cables and power lines.

• The public must stay away from power transformers during rains. Also, the public must refrain from tying cattle to electric poles/ power transformer supporting poles, etc.

• Heavy rains and winds may result is domestic short circuits. As such, the residents must check the wiring before putting on the main switch or press buttons.

• The public must refrain from making repeated calls to CESC staff whenever there is power disruption due to rains as making repeated calls will distract the staff from attending complaints and discharging duties.

• The public are required to call the CESC authorities immediately in case of power line snapping or thunderous sounds in power lines. Also, it is necessary to caution pedestrians/ motorists if power lines snap and fall on to the roads during rainfall or thunderstorms.

• Pump-sets must not be started with bare hands. Use dried wood, cutting pliers, poor power conductors, etc. while switching on motor pump-sets.

• The public can call CESC Helpline 1912 for power restoration and other power-related complaints.
