Mysuru: As part of World Immunisation Week, Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Mysuru Chapter, has commenced a free immunistation camp for children at JSS and Cheluvamba Hospitals in city from Apr.24 which will conclude on Apr.30.
Disclosing this at a press meet at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here recently, IAP National President Dr. Narayanappa opined that diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia were deadly for children below five years and advised parents to mandatorily immunise their children against such diseases.
IAP Mysuru Secretary Dr. M.R. Prashanth said that immunisation was the only tool to reduce child mortality. He added that small pox and polio had been almost eradicated. He disclosed that the immunisation coverage in the country was 62 percent and 62.6 percent in Karnataka. He hoped that the figure would go up soon.
