Sir,
As an ordinary citizen I am disappointed by the imposition of curfew during the weekends across Karnataka.
As per Dr. Soumya Swaminathan of WHO, imposition of curfew is an exercise in futility and it only inconveniences the public.
In what way a family traveling in a car on a Highway will increase the COVID cases? The moot point is how does the pandemic spread — by contact or through air?
As an aam aadmi, I believe if the Government is really serious about controlling the spread of the virus, then simply impose Section 144 throughout the State, ban all types of congregation of people — be it political, religious or academic.
Strictly enforce wearing the mask not only in cities but also at the village level. One sees thousands of people attending marriages with hardly 4-5 people wearing the mask.
Curfew would be more effective and meaningful if all the outlets /places where people tend to gather are shut down ensuring strict compliance without banning vehicular movement.
It is unfortunate that all the political leaders irrespective of party affiliation do not insist on their supporters to follow all the Covid protocols in any political function or rallies. The political leaders should be role models in strictly enforcing Covid appropriate behaviour among their followers. Only then the public will follow suit.
Since the first weekend curfew is already enforced, I hope the Government will consider my suggestion in the larger interests of common man in the ensuing weekend curfews and ensure minimum inconvenience to general public during the period.
