Weighty Wheelie

Wheelie or wheelstand is a vehicle manoeuvre in which the front wheel or wheels come off the ground due to sufficient torque being applied to rear wheel or wheels. But in this case, the goods vehicle did a wheelstand due to excess weight of goods loaded in the rear portion.

This freak incident took place on the road leading from Highway Circle towards the then Ideal Jawa factory (now Sankalp Central Park) in Yadavagiri after the Railway Underbridge at about 7.30 am today. The driver of the goods vehicle, after crossing the underbridge, was ascending the steep road, when he is said to have changed the gear and pressed the accelerator. Due to sufficient torque produced by the vehicle and also due to heavy weight in the rear portion, the goods vehicle did a wheelstand and remained stationary with its rear portion resting on the road. Though no casualties were reported, traffic was disrupted till V.V. Puram Traffic Police personnel arrived at the spot and took steps to bring the vehicle back on the ground.
