Release book ‘Traditional Foods and Nutritional Security’
Mysore/Mysuru: Rotary Mysore, Rotary Srigandha and Rotary Jayaprakashnagar, in association with Vijay Foundation, Mysuru, has organised a talk on World Health Day by Rtn. B.R. Pai, CMD of Vijay Foundation and a Wellness Practitioner, at Rotary Centre on JLB Road in city on Apr. 8 at 6.30 pm.
The book ‘Traditional Foods and Nutritional Security’ authored by Dr. Renu Agrawal, former Chief Scientist and Rural Programme Co-ordinator, CFTRI, Mysuru, will be released on the occasion. Also, Dr. Renu will deliver a talk on ‘Food and Nutrition for Healthy Life.’
About the book: Karamveer Chakra Dr. Renu Agrawal’s new book “Traditional Foods and Nutritional Security” aims at creating awareness in nutrition security management and relation with traditional practices in food around the globe. It has dealt with progress made on the ways of Nutrition security and different aspects of traditional foods.
Traditional Foods and Nutritional Security have a direct link towards good human health. Nutrition security plays an important role for good health and a strong immune system.
The book has been divided into 13 chapters covering various aspects including the principle behind the preparations of the foods, functions of the foods, fortification of foods, policy issues for Nutritional Security and the role of FAO and WHO.
The author has covered the importance of traditional spices like cumin, turmeric, mustard, coriander, pepper etc., in foods which combat many diseases. It covers the technological advances in traditional foods, innovations in instant mixes, machineries and the role of SMEs for traditional foods for a healthy life.
Earlier she has authored books on “Role of Probiotics in increasing human health”, “Utilization of Agricultural wastes to high valued products” and “Making Food safe and free from pathogens”. All these books are published by CRC Press, United Kingdom and NIPA, New Delhi and are available on Amazon and New India Publishing Agency.
Presently, Dr. Renu is in the team of Government of Karnataka to draft Nutrition Policy. She also takes classes for Corporators, Health Inspectors and Tahsildars on nutrition and food safety at SIUD and ATI, Mysuru.
She is also serving in a number of National Committees of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
