Why can’t MCC send tax demand once a year?

Sir,

“After water bills, MCC moots launch of online Property Tax payment” (SOM dated Aug.3) is indeed good news. MCC has been following archaic method of tax collection while BBMP and a few other civic bodies in the State have automated tax payments.

Sadly, MCC continued to live in the past! The tax-payers have to go to the Ward Office, stand in the queue to get the required form, pay the amount as demanded by the staff to get it filled, stand in one more queue to remit the tax amount. A whole day is wasted in this process.

What is disturbing is the treatment one experiences — tax-payers are treated as one who are seeking a favour! Senior citizens and physically challenged have to undergo the same misery as there are no separate queues or counters.

When CESC with lakhs of consumers sends monthly bill for energy charges, similarly, why can’t MCC send a tax demand that too once a year? The amount can be remitted at designated banks and MysoreOne centres.

Tax-payers expect simple and easy way of paying the tax amount. One need not waste his/her whole day for this purpose. Hope, MCC respects the sensitivity of the tax-payers by minimising their problem. Although, the country is in the forefront of IT-BT, the irony is politicians and bureaucrats have a rusted mindset. Unless they change, we continue to live in the past.
