Mysuru: The 9th edition of Shilpi Cup 2024, the Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament tailored exclusively for Civil Engineering students by Builders’ Association of India (BAI), Mysuru Centre, was held at SJCE Grounds on Feb. 9 and 10.
Ten Engineering Colleges — SJCE (Civil), SJCE (CTM), NIE, PESCE (Mandya), VVIET, MIT (Mysuru), MIT (Tandavapura), MYCEM, ATME and VVCE — took part in the Tournament. These colleges were set in two groups to frame a 20 league matches schedule. Each college played 4 matches with their group teams.
Among 20 matches played in league, PESCE Mandya and VVCE under group A and MIT Mysuru & NIE from group B were qualified to play semi-finals.
The first semifinal was won by VVCE by 43 runs against MIT Mysuru. Man of Match: C. Rithesh (VVCE); Best Batsman: C. Rithesh (VVCE); Best Bowler: Praful (MIT, Mysuru); Best Faculty: Chetan (VVCE).
Second semifinals was won by NIE by 3 wickets over PESCE Mandya. Man of Match: Sanjith (NIE); Best Batsman: Raju (NIE); Best Bowler: Sudeep (NIE); Best Faculty: Madhusudhan (PESCE).
Final match was won by NIE by 5 wickets over VVCE, thus clinching the Shilpi Cup 2024. VVCE won runners trophy. Man of Match: Gaurav (NIE); Best Batsman: Rithesh (VVCE); Best Bowler: Sanjeith (NIE); Best Faculty: Chetan (VVCE).
NIE clinched the Champions trophy, along with certificates and gift watches, while VVCE received the Runners Cup and certificates for each player.
Highlights: NIE secured the trophy for the first time in 13 years; VVCE set a record score of 146 in 8 overs and Rithesh from VVCE achieved an individual century, marking a historic first in the history of the Shilpi Cup.
Earlier, the Tournament was inaugurated on Feb. 9 with Dr. Santosh Kumar, Hon. Vice-Chancellor of JSS Science & Technological University, as the chief guest and T.N. Hemanth, Past Chairman of BAI Mysore, who initiated the first Shilpi Cup, as the guest of honour. Dr. C. Nataraj, Principal of SJCE, provided the grounds for the tournament.
Cricketer Aiyappa of Bigg Boss-
fame was present during the valedictory on Feb. 10 alongside National Vice-President N.S. Muralidhara, who presented the awards. Chairman Nagaraj Bairy presided over the prize distribution, acknowledging the efforts of Shilpi Coordinators A. Dinesh, Bhargav Shinde, T.S. Gurudatta, C. Vishwanath and Sampath for their contributions. Joint Secretary Vasudevan proposed a vote of thanks. Pranav Prabhakara Rao skilfully compered.
