‘Withdraw unscientific order to start PU classes from May 2’

Mysuru:  Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Marithibbegowda has urged the Department of  Pre-University Education to withdraw the unscientific order of starting the classes on May 2 but instead stick to the opening from June 1 itself.

Addressing a press conference at the Patrakaratara Bhavan here on Apr.25, he said that this order is in violation of the Model Code of Conduct which is in force due to the elections being held in Karnataka. In spite of this, a unilateral decision has been taken without consulting the MLCs, Teachers Organisations and Lecturers, he alleged.

It will be difficult both for the students and teachers to attend colleges as the summer heat is unbearable with the temperatures touching 35 degrees to 40 degrees centigrade. Besides, the teachers will be engaged in election work for 20 days, he said.

Even though the Department was aware of all these facts, still it has recommended and issued a circular to all the colleges to start the classes from May 2. Hence, it must be withdrawn immediately, he urged.

Jayaram Kilara, Dr. Nayeemulla Sharief, Rajendra and Prof. Shankaregowda were present at the press meet.

PU Colleges closed on May 11, 12

All Pre-University Colleges will remain closed on May 11 and 12 in view of the Assembly elections.

A circular from the Department of Pre-University Education said that all PU Colleges would remain closed on these days as the lecturers would be deployed for election duty and some of the colleges would be used as polling booths.
